A city of over 19 million, Cairo greets you with its Nile-side hotels, sidewalk cafés, awe-inspiring museums, and its ancient antiquities. Beyond all of that, her lively local bazaars invite you to try your best haggling skills to find the most splendid of mementos. Over the course of our time in Egypt, you’ll experience all this and more.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20: MEMPHIS, SAKKARA AND DAHSHUR

After breakfast, you will meet your Egyptologist guide and begin your discovery of the fascinating history and development of the pyramids, and hear the stories of pharaohs and their lives. Set off for the ancient city of Memphis, the first capital of United Upper and Lower Egypt, that once stood as a flourishing metropolis during the time of the Pharaohs. Continue to a visit at nearby Sakkara, where you will explore the Pyramid of Djoser, known as the Step Pyramid, the first monumental stone structure, built larger than any other before its time.

After lunch at a local restaurant near Sakkara, this afternoon visit the village of Dahshur, which marks the southern end of the vast pyramid field that begins at Giza.  Excavations at Dahshur have revealed the remains of seven pyramids, as well as extensive tomb complexes built for queens and nobility from Memphis up until the 13th Dynasty in the Middle Kingdom. Two of Egypt's best-preserved early pyramids are located here. The Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid at Dahshur further the story of how the pharaohs continued to seek the perfect design for pyramids.

Back to your hotel for a rest before a special treat. This evening enjoy a an Egyptian culinary experience Travel to a local family’s home in Cairo where you’ll share in a personal exchange with the women of the house as they prepare an authentically inspired meal for your enjoyment. Learn about the setup of a typical Egyptian kitchen and check out the ingredients used in most regional recipes. Sit down for a hearty meal, including dishes such as Egyptian rice with vermicelli, mossaqa, lentil soup, molokhia, fattah, stuffed vegetables, and kushari. After the meal, sit back and chat with the family over dessert and an Egyptian drink, such as mint tea or Egyptian coffee. If you’re feeling brave, challenge one of your hosts to a game of Backgammon, a favorite local pastime. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21: PYRAMIDS OF GIZA AND KHAN EL KHALILI BAZAAR

After breakfast, visit the Pyramids of Giza, which have stood for the last 5000 years, and are the main part of a complex setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honor of Khufu, three smaller pyramids for Khufu’s wives, an even smaller “satellite” pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small Mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles. One of the small pyramids contains the tomb of queen Hetepheres, sister and wife of Snefru and the mother of Khufu. See the Sphinx, with the head of a man and the body of a lion.

Discover the magic of ancient Egypt on a camel ride experience at the Giza Pyramids. Camels and their saddle seats are adorned with colorful fabrics and jewelry in sharp contrast from monotonous sand dunes and pyramid rocks. As you ride your camel, you can venture into the desert and across nearby sand dunes to capture superb images of the Pyramids.

You must be over the age of 18 to participate in the Tour. You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against any costs, damages, losses, or liabilities arising out of your or your companions’ actions or omissions or (if you checked the box indicating that you are signing or agreeing on behalf of yourself and your traveling companions) arising out of your companions’ claims that you were not authorized to sign or agree.

Additional risks and dangers may arise including, but not limited to, hazards of travel by train, automobile, motor coach, aircraft and other means of conveyance, animal interactions, swimming, forces of nature, political unrest, other unrest, risks associated with water, food, plants, insects and differing animal regulation, and acts of national and local governments and unrest and acts of others against governments. These risks are not an exhaustive list but are examples of many kinds of risks. You are voluntarily participating in these activities with the knowledge that there may be dangers involved, and you hereby agree to accept any and all risks. As lawful consideration for the agreement with Recess 4 Grownups to participate in such trips and activities you agree you will not make a claim against Recess 4 Grownups, its related companies or its personnel or sue for bodily injury, emotional trauma, death, property loss or damage or other loss, cost or expense, however caused, as a result of or related to your contracting for, traveling to or from, or in any and every other way participating in the trip. You release Recess 4 Grownups, its related companies and its personnel from any and all claims, known or unknown, arising from contracting for, traveling to or from, and in any and every way participating in a trip. This release of liability and assumption of risk agreement is entered into on behalf of you and all members of your family and party, also including minors. This agreement also binds your heirs, legal representatives and assigns.

Where the guest occupies a motor coach or other vehicle seat fitted with a safety belt, neither Recess 4 Grownups nor the Operator nor its agents or co-operating organizations or service providers will be liable for any injury, illness or death or for any loss or damages or claims whatsoever arising from any accident or incident, if the safety belt is not being worn at the time of such an accident or incident. This exclusion and limitation of liability shall not be used to imply that the Operator or its agents or affiliated entities are liable in other circumstances.

General: Any dispute related to the Tour shall be governed by Georgia law without regard to conflict of laws principles. The federal or state courts in Georgia shall be the exclusive forum for any lawsuit related to the Tour, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction by said courts. You agree to present any claims against us within 30 days after the Tour ends and to file within six (6) months of the incident, and you acknowledge that this expressly limits the applicable statute of limitations to one year. Guest claims not submitted and received within this time shall be deemed waived and barred.

We are not responsible for typographical or pricing errors. You agree to grant us (and third parties with whom we may engage in joint marketing) a worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up license to use your photographic, video, or digital likeness solely for our promotional purposes. Facsimile transmission of any signed document shall be deemed delivery of an original. At our request, you shall promptly provide an original document as well. If there are any conflicts between this Participant Agreement, the Reservation Form, and the Itinerary, this Participant Agreement shall apply.

If any provision of these terms and conditions shall be held unenforceable, such provision shall be struck and the remainder shall remain enforceable.

For California Residents: We are a registered Seller of Travel in the State of California (CST 2103869-40). Registration as a Seller of Travel does not constitute approval by the State of California. We are not a participant in the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund. California law requires certain sellers of travel to have a trust account, and we have a trust account at Bank of America. Upon cancellation of the transportation or travel services, where the guest is not at fault and has not canceled in violation of any terms and conditions previously clearly and conspicuously disclosed and agreed to by the guest, all sums paid to Tour Operator for services not provided will be promptly paid to the guest, unless the guest advises Tour Operator in writing, after cancellation. This provision does not apply where Recess 4 Grownups has remitted the payment to another registered wholesale seller of travel or a carrier, without obtaining a refund, and where the wholesaler or provider defaults in providing the agreed-upon transportation or service. In this situation, Recess 4 Grownups will provide the guest with a written statement accompanied by bank records establishing the disbursement of the payment, and if disbursed to a wholesale seller of travel, proof of current registration of that wholesaler.
