SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12, 2022: DEPART USA
We depart USA en route to Reykjavik, with complimentary meals and beverages served aloft.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 13, 2022: REYKJAVIK CITY TOUR AND OBSERVATION PLATFORM
Meet your guide and coach at Keflavík Airport. Depart the airport and stop at the Viking World Museum for breakfast. From there we head to Reykjavík for a city sightseeing tour.
The city tour takes you on a journey to explore the capital city’s top attractions, learn interesting facts and hear riveting stories. It provides an excellent opportunity to discover the various sights to see or activities to do in Reykjavík. The tour includes the stunning Harpa concert hall and conference center which was the winner of the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture—the Mies van der Rohe Award. Next up is the city center where we will see the infamous Hallgrimskirkja church, whose unique design was inspired by the basalt lava columns—a common volcanic rock formation in Icelandic nature.
We proceed to the viewing platform at Perlan which provides a breathtaking 360° view over the charming city of Reykjavik.
After sightseeing, we will have a light lunch before proceeding to our Reykjavik hotel. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon on your own (but don’t take a nap – stay awake to adjust for jet lag!!). Our city center location provides opportunities to explore a bit before settling down for the night. (Breakfast, Lunch)
OVERNIGHT: Canopy Hotel Deluxe Room, Reykjavik
MONDAY NOVEMBER 14, 2022: SKY LAGOON | REYKJAVIK FOOD WALK
Sleep late before enjoying breakfast at the hotel and free time.
Early this afternoon, we head out for the ultimate Iceland experience, a geothermal spa, as we visit the Sky Lagoon. Immerse yourself in warmth at the oceanside geothermal lagoon, as the dramatic North Atlantic Ocean stretches out before you. Feel yourself relax and unwind with the Ritual, a unique seven-step experience. Over the centuries, Icelanders have developed a way to combine the healing powers of warm water, cold water, warm steam, dry heat and fresh air. The Ritual uses these traditions to integrate the natural elements to promote wellbeing, inside and out.
This evening the group will enjoy a Reykjavík Food Walk, as we have a fun local guide show you all the best of Reykjavik’s cuisine. Taste the grass fed, free roaming Icelandic Lamb & fresh Icelandic Fish. Enjoy home-made Icelandic ice cream from a secret family recipe. Visit the famous Icelandic Hot Dog Stand. Enjoy the landmarks of Reykjavik, hear fun stories & enjoy amazing local food as your introduction to Icelandic’s favorite dishes. (Breakfast, Dinner)
OVERNIGHT: Canopy Hotel Deluxe Room, Reykjavik
TUESDAY NOVEMBER 15, 2022: THINGVELLIR| GEYSIR | GULLFOSS (THE GOLDEN CIRCLE)
After breakfast, the tour starts by heading to Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park (UNESCO World Heritage site) where the world’s oldest parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland’s largest lake. After Þingvellir we make our way to Fontana in Laugarvatn: here we get to visit the Geothermal Bakery. Guests experience the geothermal bakery first hand and see as we dig out a pot of fresh bread from the hot black sand. Guests are offered to taste the bread, served hot from the ground with Icelandic butter. This is something you should not miss!
Continue through farmland areas to the geothermal fields of Geysir with bubbling mud pools and the high-spouting Strokkur hot spring. Last but not least, visit the dramatic two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, a spectacular sight in winter when frozen mid-cascade. Stop at Skalholt, Iceland’s capital during the Middle Ages and now a culture center with a beautiful church.
Today we make a stop for lunch at Friðheimar Tomato and Horse Farm. Friðheimar is very much a family affair, run by Knútur Rafn Ármann and his wife Helena Hermundardóttir. He is an agronomist from Hólar University College in north Iceland, while she is a horticulturalist from Reykir Horticultural College. Their five children, Dóróthea, Karítas, Matthías Jens, Arnaldur and Tómas Ingi, all play an active part in the family business. Visits to the greenhouses help visitors gain an insight into the processes of greenhouse horticulture, with a short and informative talk on the subject – and in fact it is quite remarkable that it should be possible to grow vegetables in this cold climate, by creating warm Mediterranean conditions, all year round, through the long dark winter. At Friðheimar they also breed horses, and we’ll have a stable visit to get to know the Icelandic Horse.
Our hotel this evening is the Hotel Ranga, a luxury countryside hotel, located far from the light pollution of the cities. Enjoy soaking in the geothermally heated hot tubs, and don't worry if the Northern Lights appear in the middle of the night - Hotel Ranga has a wake-up service to ensure you don't miss an appearance of the Northern Lights.
We end the day at our hotel for dinner, where Hotel Rangá prides itself on serving some of the best food in South Iceland – enjoy a menu grounded in Nordic cuisine that celebrates predominantly local ingredients of the highest quality and freshness.
If weather conditions are right, your guide will take you on a Northern Lights hunt on foot in the area outside the hotel, or during our next three evenings where our rural location facilitates our quest to see the Northern Lights. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
OVERNIGHT: Hotel Rangá Deluxe Room
WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16, 2022: ICELAND'S SOUTH SHORE | EYJAFJALLAJOKULL VOLCANO
Enjoy breakfast and then drive along the South Shore, an area of Iceland that is especially beautiful to view in the winter. This is one of the main farm regions of the country, and the road will pass by typical Icelandic farms, often with Icelandic horses in the fields.
Our first stop of the day will be at the Caves of Hella, not too far from our hotel. Twelve man-made caves have been discovered on the land of Ægissíða by Hella on the South coast of Iceland. Four of them have been open to the public. The historical site is Iceland's oldest still standing archaeological remains. Some believe the caves to date even further back than the settlement of the Nordic Vikings.
The wonders of the Caves of Hella include ancient crosses, wall carvings and carved seats. Mystery surrounds the caves and for centuries people have wondered: Are the caves the handiwork of the Celts? Were the caves a place of ancient worship? The Caves of Hella offer a great opportunity to explore these historic caves in Iceland. We’ll discover the secrets they hold and experience the magical Underworld of the South.
Our next stop will be at the wonderful LAVA Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. Enjoy both the exhibit and viewing an interesting film about Icelandic volcanoes at the Centre‘s cinema. Continue onwards.
If the skies are clear you might see the area’s two most famous volcanoes in the distance: Mount Hekla (last eruption 2000) and Eyjafjallajokull (last eruption 2010). You might also possibly catch a glimpse of Westman Islands archipelago off the coast of Iceland. During our drive today we’ll stop for an included lunch.
Stop at the spectacular waterfall Seljalandsfoss. If trail conditions are right, you might be able to walk behind Seljalandsfoss falls.
Head onwards, passing Myrdalsjokull Glacier, to visit Reynisfjara beach. Take a walk on the black sands, admiring the extraordinary rock formations and thundering waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Cross a vast lava field created from a very destructive 18th-century eruption as you head into Southeast Iceland.
Arrive at our rural hotel, where once again we can get a wake-up call if the Northern Lights appear. Enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
OVERNIGHT: Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon Standard Rooms
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2022: VATNAJOKULL NATIONAL PARK | JOKULSARLON GLACIAL LAGOON- ICE CAVE TOUR
After breakfast this morning, enter the southern area of Vatnajokull National Park, named after Europe’s largest glacier. This national park is also the largest one in Western Europe, and the total park area covers almost 14% of Iceland. Drive through vast sand plains created by glacial outwashes as you head east en route to the Vatnajokull area. Visit Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon where you can enjoy the breath-taking sight of icebergs floating in the fantastic 180m (591 ft.) deep glacial lagoon. Nearby is the dramatic beauty of the Diamond Beach, where shrinking icebergs settle on the black sands before they drift out to sea. We’ll have lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to our exciting afternoon adventure.
Today we get an experience of a lifetime, visiting an ice cave in Europe´s largest glacier. The conditions of the ice caves are constantly changing. During the warmer summer months the ice caves are being naturally formed by melted glacier water. In autumn each year the locals start scouting for ice caves. Their choice for the best available ice cave is not only the size of the cave, but the overall beauty of the area and the colors. The super jeeps can take us very close to the ice cave, in order to minimize walking. The super jeep journey to reach the cave is a journey in its own right, allowing you to take in the spectacular surroundings. Once you reach your destination, you will have plenty of time to experience a beautiful blue ice cave!
The tour continues on to view Svinafellsjokull, one of the most beautiful of the glacial outlets emerging from Vatnajokull. Visit the national park’s famous Skaftafell area, a site of outstanding natural beauty dominated by several magnificent glaciers. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Please note: Due to lack of daylight hours at this time routes and itinerary may change.
OVERNIGHT: Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon Standard Rooms
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 18, 2022: SOUTH EAST ICELAND | RANGA HOTEL
Breakfast at your hotel. Head back along the beautiful South Coast, making stops along the way that we missed heading to the South East. Stop today included the Skogarfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland´s most photographed waterfall, as well as the Skogar Folk Musuem. Here the group will get good insight on how Icelanders lived in the not too distant past. We’ll stop at a local restaurant for lunch, before continuing back to the Hotel Ranga.
Our day ends back out the Rangá Hotel. Another fine dinner of fresh local ingredients at the hotel is included tonight.
This evening we’ll explore the observatory of Hotel Ranga. With the push of a button, the roof rolls out of sight, revealing the gorgeous night sky above. High walls shelter our guests from the cold wind, though they also offer cozy snowsuits to keep you warm while stargazing. Our group will be able to stand inside the observatory and gaze at the Milky Way in all its glory. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Please note: The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings, therefore, cannot be guaranteed.
OVERNIGHT: Hotel Rangá Deluxe Rooms

After checking in at our city center hotel, in the afternoon we head to Blue Lagoon only 35 minutes away. Enjoy a peaceful time at the Blue Lagoon, a unique natural pool of mineral rich geothermal water located in the middle of a lava field in the pure, beautiful Icelandic wilderness.
The Blue Lagoon is known for its special properties and its beneficial effects on the skin. The Blue Lagoon attracts visitors from all over the world in search of health, relaxation and an exotic experience.
